How PDF compression works here

Lossless re-packs the PDF without changing its content, keeping text fully selectable. Light, Medium, and Strong re-render each page as a JPEG at progressively lower quality and resolution, which dramatically shrinks scanned or image-heavy PDFs at the cost of text selectability. Everything runs locally — your file is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why does "Lossless" sometimes barely shrink my PDF?
Lossless mode only re-packs the file structure without touching content, so text-only PDFs that are already efficient may shrink very little. For big savings on scanned or image-heavy PDFs, use Light, Medium, or Strong.
Why does compressed text become unselectable?
Light, Medium, and Strong modes rasterize each page to a JPEG image to maximize compression. This flattens text into the image, so it is no longer selectable or searchable. Use Lossless if you need to keep text.
Is my file uploaded for compression?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser. Your document never leaves your device.
